McKenzie Stretch

This is a straightforward simple exercise to combat a major back problem. It is designed to help maintain proper alignment of the discs between the vertebrae of the lower back. We spend so much of our day sitting and leaning forward which forces the natural anterior curve of the lower back into the opposite direction, putting excess pressure on the discs. This stretch helps realign the lower back into its proper placement. And even if the discs are not involved this exercise is wonderful as part of a self-care maintenance program. As with any physical regimen please consult your doctor or health care professional to see if this is right for you. For instance, while this stretch is great for discs it isn’t for a condition called spondylolisthesis, which is a forward slip of one vertebra on top of another. In that situation it would exacerbate the issue instead of help. So please proceed with caution.
